What is Path to the Plate?
Path to the Plate is a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service initiative that seeks to correct misinformation about the production of our food supply and its effect on human health. It is designed to provide consumers with relevant, current, and factual information they can use to make informed decisions about agriculture and their health. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension staff and volunteers provide an unbiased examination of how agriculture and the food we eat affect our health. This program targets youth in Grayson County.
The goal for the youth component of Path to the Plate is to develop a comprehensive educational program that highlights the connection between agriculture and health for youth of all ages.
Specifically, Path to the Plate Youth Expo participants will:
- Increase their knowledge about the connection between agriculture and health.
- Identify technologies and practices of agriculture that impact health, economies, and communities.
- Recognize production systems and the health benefits of various commodities
The Path to the Plate Youth Expo will be offered the last two weeks of April to schools within Grayson County, with options for a morning or afternoon program. The program consists of three 30-minute presentations and covers six agricultural commodities – honey, poultry, grains (corn and wheat), pecans, and peaches.
